      <image:caption>In our forties and fifties we hit a fork in the road. One way leads to a future of poor health, potentially high doctors bills, medications, higher risk for disease and higher risk for dementia. Overall a low quality of life. The other leads to a rich future of being as active as you want, staying out of the doctor’s office, keeping cognitive function and overall having a better quality of life. The evidence continues to mount that exercise helps reduce heart disease; slows the inevitable loss of bone density we all face as we age; keeps the brain functioning at a high level; and spurs positive feelings and mental alertness.       <image:caption>I did not discover how to get in shape until my early forties. It was knee surgery at 34 that made me realize I was not as healthy as I thought I was. I had just finished getting my second black belt, and was physically active at least five days a week. But I was only running and jumping without any strength training. I was definitely “fit”, but not strong and my knee took the brunt of it.</image:caption>

For the first time in my life I was able to put on muscle and learned how to train each region of my body so I could safely continue playing the sports I enjoyed. Now that I’m over 50, I know the importance of staying active to help keep my body and mind strong as I age. I’ve also discovered how to make it fun, and hope to pass that joy on to you! I referee for the AUDL, a pro ultimate league. I easily cover 4-6 miles a game. Fitness challenges and mud runs. Daily walks with my fiancee and dog. Singing in a Celtic band called Banna.</image:caption>
